“There are only four kinds of people in the world: Those who have been caregivers, those who are currently caregivers, those who will be caregivers, and those who will need a caregiver.”
The most substantial portion of the current population is Boomers—born between 1946 and 1964—and we are caring for parents (or spouses) and are moving toward the age of needing care ourselves. This country is not ready, as any family caregiver knows. Old age needs to be valued, the medical profession needs to do better, family caregivers need respect (and help), government and community movers and shakers need to address housing and care. Change is going to have to come from the bottom up. It’s why I wrote my memoir, and why I am eager to get it out into the world. Telling our stories is what will drive change.
What is your story? Who will you share it with? You can begin here!
