The house at Three of Earth farm
When I opened an Airbnb in the basement suite where I lived while caring for my mother, I named this property Three of Earth Farm. Three is a mystical, magical number, as is this piece of earth. In the Tarot, it represents the resolution of the one and the two. Something begins with the ace: the purchase of this property in 1960. It is tested in the two: the death of my father in 1995, and the will to keep it up by my mother. It is manifested in the three: my two sisters and myself, accepting the mantle—for now.
I am a caregiver survivor. These days I write about living in (and cleaning out) my family home and about my own aging as a member of the oldest generation. I write about my mother and caregiving from the other side.
You can find more of my writing on my WordPress site, Writing Down the Story and my current musings about life in the third act on Substack. If you’re ever in SW Washington, I would love to host you in my Airbnb: airbnb.com/h/3ofearthfarm. It’s a perfect retreat from the stresses of the world, and I will take good care of you. (Also, view photos of this old house to accompany the memoirs.)
